Don’t see your question on this list? Then don’t hesitate to contact us and we’ll help you in any way we can!

What kind of dogs do you accept?

We take all kinds of dogs, young and old, for many reasons as long as it is for a long period – 4 months to several years.

Where will our dog stay?

It all depends on the dog itself and ‘how well it gets along with others’. We try to match them up with other suitable companions – many stay right in the house with us, others have groups of playmates that they will get along with – we have kennels if needed, but prefer that they have friends to be with.

Can we visit?

Of course as they always remain “your dog” – we can send pictures and updates as requested – many owners will take a nearby motel room and take the dog with them overnight, or even longer.

What about vet care?

Our vet becomes YOUR vet and reports directly to you!

What if he is on special food?

You would have to supply it – Chewy.com will do this automatically.

Do they have heat and air conditioning as needed?

Of course

How do we pay?

Payment is monthly by check or credit card (this also insures that your dog IS here and being cared for)

How many dogs do you have retired here?

It varies and changes constantly – we currently have dogs here from all over the world.

How many people do you have working there?

Currently, we have 6 people caring for these dogs – we are big enough to adapt to any situation, and small enough to give them all individual care as needed – getting bigger is not always better. We prefer to stay small.

What types of dogs are best suited for a dog retirement home?

Many of our residents are senior dogs, but we also welcome adult dogs that need long-term care due to owner relocation, military deployment, health challenges, or other life circumstances. We evaluate each dog individually to ensure our environment is a good fit.

How do you care for senior dogs with mobility issues?

We provide personalized care for senior dogs with arthritis, limited mobility, or other age-related conditions. Our caregivers monitor each dog’s comfort level and can assist with medications, special diets, and modified exercise routines as needed.

Can you administer medications to my dog?

Yes. We regularly care for dogs that require daily medications, supplements, or special health routines. We follow owner instructions carefully and maintain detailed records to help ensure consistent care.

What happens if my dog needs veterinary care while boarding?

If a medical issue arises during your dog’s stay, we will contact you immediately and coordinate care with your veterinarian or a local veterinary clinic if necessary. Your dog’s health and safety are always our top priority.

How much outdoor time do dogs receive each day?

Dogs enjoy plenty of supervised outdoor time throughout the day on our 150-acre property. Exercise schedules are customized based on each dog’s age, health, energy level, and temperament.

Do you offer lifetime care for dogs?

In some situations, we may be able to provide extended or permanent retirement care for dogs whose owners can no longer care for them. Please contact us to discuss your specific circumstances and availability.

Can I visit my dog during a long-term boarding stay?

Yes. We encourage owners to stay connected with their pets and can discuss visitation arrangements based on your dog’s needs and the length of their stay.

What should I bring when boarding my dog?

We recommend bringing your dog’s food, medications, veterinary records, favorite toys, bedding, and any comfort items that help them feel at home. Familiar belongings can make the transition much easier.

Are dogs socialized with other dogs during their stay?

When appropriate, dogs may enjoy supervised social interaction with compatible canine companions. We carefully evaluate temperament and preferences to ensure safe and positive experiences.

How far in advance should I reserve boarding services?

Availability can vary depending on the season and length of stay. We recommend contacting us as early as possible, especially for long-term boarding, military deployment boarding, or holiday periods.

What makes a dog retirement home different from a traditional kennel?

A dog retirement home focuses on long-term comfort, personalized care, and quality of life rather than simply providing temporary housing. Our goal is to create a peaceful, home-like environment where dogs can thrive physically and emotionally.

Can you accommodate dogs with special dietary needs?

Absolutely. Whether your dog requires prescription food, homemade meals, supplements, or a specialized feeding schedule, we can work with you to maintain their routine.

Do you accept emergency boarding requests?

Yes. We understand that emergencies happen unexpectedly. We do our best to accommodate urgent boarding needs for families dealing with hospitalization, family emergencies, travel disruptions, or other unforeseen circumstances.

Will I receive updates about my dog during their stay?

Yes. We are happy to provide updates, photos, and communication regarding your dog’s well-being, especially for long-term boarding guests and concerned family members.

How do I know if Silver Streak Kennels is the right fit for my dog?

The best way to determine if we’re the right fit is to contact us directly. We’ll discuss your dog’s age, personality, health needs, and boarding requirements to ensure we can provide the care and environment they deserve.
